ØVI returns with the new single "Penanggalan," a furious and unflinching release that embodies parasitism in its purest form. Named after a Southeast Asian folkloric spirit that detaches its head to feast on human life, the track captures the rage and exhaustion of being drained by those who take more than they give. Lyrically, it calls out social leeches and hollow peers who feed on the vitality of others while offering nothing of their own. The song begins in a state of suffocation, building pressure until it ruptures into a chaotic, cathartic outpouring, a declaration of independence from decay.
"Penanggalan" arrives alongside a music video that visualizes its central themes of detachment, reclamation, and transformation through surreal and visceral imagery.
The single comes from ØVI’s upcoming EP Hedera Helix, a project that takes its name from the ivy plant, a species known for its relentless growth and tenacity. Like ivy, the music sprawls, consumes, and leaves its mark on everything it touches. Across four tracks, the record examines toxic relationships, parasitic dynamics, and the reclaiming of personal will, not as acts of despair but as transformations of power. ØVI channels fury into purpose, revealing that anger and intensity can be tools for survival and growth.
