Diminium Unveils "Avoid a Void" Amidst Turmoil!

Amidst the adversity of a war-torn environment and the echoes of conflict, Ukrainian atmospheric metal band Diminium emerges with a powerful new single, "Avoid a Void", released on 25th August 2023. The single serves as a precursor to their highly anticipated debut album, showcasing a unique fusion of atmospheric and modern metal elements. Diminium’s creative journey through the making of "Avoid a Void" is an inspiring story of resilience and determination. “After the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022 and future blackouts caused by shelling, I felt that I was losing my mind sitting in darkness,” shared Dimi Rich, the band's frontman and owner of a recording studio. “I picked up a guitar with my laptop and started to outpour all my anger and disgust to the situation around onto music just to stay sane.” He channelled his frustrations into a musical concoction of "ambient/atmospheric stuff" mixed with "crushing riffs" and "wrathful vocals/lyrics". The single brings together the extraordinary talents of guest musicians Martino Garattoni and Xavier Dumont. Rich's existing rapport with Xavier from Godspear enabled a seamless collaboration that produced "really epic orchestrations". The inclusion of Martino emerged serendipitously from a social media interaction, leading to a remarkable contribution that left Rich “blown away by his bass parts and virtuosity”. "Avoid a Void" is not just a musical piece; it’s a representation of the band’s emotions and experiences over the tumultuous past year. The song revolves around the theme of overcoming sadness and maintaining focus, a reflection of the band's own struggles amidst the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. “Sometimes it’s better to be focused and even aggressive, in terms of setting and moving towards your goals without self-pity,” Rich elaborated. As a self-released project, producing "Avoid a Void" independently posed its own set of challenges and rewards. “Mostly, the promotion and visuals,” Rich identified, expressing the difficulty in navigating through a saturated market and the quest for the right collaborators for visuals. Yet, despite these challenges, the creative process remained smooth. This single showcases the “fast and energetic side” of Diminium’s upcoming album, juxtaposed with “mid-tempo groovy-ass songs”, providing a tantalising taste of what’s to come.
