Culto Macabro returns with “Santo Ofício”, the third full‑length offering from this entity forged in the shadows since 2015. A work of relentless black metal, carved from the violence of history, religious fanaticism, and the institutional cruelty that shaped centuries of terror.
Released on February 3st through Nekrogoat Heresy, “Santo Ofício” stands as a direct assault on the legacy of the Inquisition and its darkest figures. Each track unfolds like a chapter from a profane chronicle, invoking persecution, torture, spiritual manipulation, and the weight of intolerance that scarred our past.
The album’s lyrical themes delve into the Tribunal of the Holy Office, forbidden rites of the flesh, the figure of Pope Paul III, the origins of the Inquisition, the presence of witchcraft in Portugal, and the tragic fate of the Witches of Aljezur. “Santo Ofício” rises as a manifesto of revolt and desecration, a scream against the fanaticism that destroyed lives and cultures.
The album also includes two cover songs, reinforcing the project’s connection to the extreme Portuguese underground:
Martelo Negro – “Sodoma Triunfante”
The Firstborn – “Fortress Of (Firstborn) Evil”
Both reimagined through the feral, ritualistic aura that defines the sound of Culto Macabro.
The album also features the participation of Gustavo Vieira (former keyboardist of The Firstborn), who contributed to the tracks “O Lamento de Ovatsug” and “Fortress Of (Firstborn) Evil”.
