Brethren of Sadness is a Blackened Funeral Doom project born from the desolate corners of artistic despair. Composed of two enigmatic individuals—John Suffering (Chalice of Suffering, An Tóramh, Solemn Echoes and Forever Falling), on vocals and Anthony Copertino Jr. (Goatwitch) on all instruments—this project delves deep into the realms of existential anguish, cosmic nihilism, and the haunting fragility of the human condition.
John Suffering, with his otherworldly vocal delivery of guttural laments and anguished whispers, channels the torment of existence into a harrowing sonic experience. Meanwhile, Anthony Copertino Jr. brings the project’s bleak vision to life with crushing guitar riffs, cavernous basslines, thunderous drum compositions, and atmospheric synths that paint vast, oppressive soundscapes. Together, their collaboration is both relentless and introspective, offering listeners a journey through sorrow and darkness.
Operating exclusively as a studio project, Brethren of Sadness forgoes live performances in favor of meticulously crafted recordings that allow for an unparalleled depth of atmosphere and texture. Each release is a testament to their uncompromising artistic vision—an immersive exploration of doom-infused melancholy that leaves an indelible mark on the soul.
