Blackened symphonic death metal band EPIGRAM are set to release the debut full-length album ‘OBSOLESCENT.’ Across a swift 28 minutes, EPIGRAM presents a full vision of a world gone wrong, presented through the hammering rhythms of death metal, the raw speed of black metal, and a subtle but keen sense of melody.
Based in Los Angeles, California, EPIGRAM formed in 2015, the solo project of Luis Echevarria. The music centers around a story involving a massive population reduction from a plague, which thrusts the Earth into a dystopian nightmare controlled by the ruling elites. A narrative which began in the first EP ‘Shadows’ (2017) is continued in ‘OBSOLESCENT’, but this time the lower class begin to rise up against their oppressors. This nightmare is perfectly represented by the artwork, created by the legendary and prolific Pär Olofsson.
Musically, ‘OBSOLESCENT,’ is a blistering display of brutality with dark, melodic overtones that perfectly carry the album’s bleak concept. Blast beats and growls find their place among symphonic textures and twisted rhythms, including two guest solos by scene mainstay Sanjay Kumar (INFERI, WORMHOLE) on “NO SIN” and “WRATH OF BETRAYED.”
