With over 40 years of career, Xeque-Mate, pioneers of heavy metal in Portugal, have just released their new album ENTRUDO, now available via Larvae Records.

Formed in 1979 in Maia (Porto district), they are recognized as the longest-running active Hard'n'Heavy band in the country, and continue to assert their identity with a powerful, mature and socially conscious sound.

The band is now booking shows for 2025 and 2026, and is open to proposals from festivals, promoters and events looking to feature a true legend of Portuguese metal in their lineups.

Xeque-Mate, one of the most iconic bands in Portuguese heavy metal, are back with their new album, Entrudo — a visceral cry straight from the core of Portuguese metal.

Staying true to their roots and proudly flying the metal flag, the band delivers an intense work filled with sharp social criticism. With direct, hard-hitting lyrics, Entrudo resonates deeply with the turbulent times we live in. This is more than music — this is a manifesto.

The album title references Portugal’s traditional Carnival — a time of masks, excess, and satire. Here, it becomes a powerful metaphor to unmask hypocrisy, abuse, and the power games shaping the country. Each track is a burst of razor-sharp riffs, pounding rhythms, and lyrics that call for both reflection and rebellion.

The album’s artwork was once again crafted by César Hugo, whose vision brings the concept of Entrudo to life. The cover, inspired by the Caretos de Podence, proudly celebrates Portuguese folk culture with identity, irreverence, and pride — values deeply rooted in the band’s DNA. The Caretos themselves immediately connected with the project, supporting and collaborating throughout its creation.
