Wound Collector to release "Begging For Chicxulub" in June!

Jason Hesley

Wound Collector is the brainchild of Peter Verdonck, a renowned professional saxophonist and composer who has earned his stripes in performances across the globe with Thelema Trio, Manngold de Cobre, The Rhythm Junks, De Pandoering, Ambrassband and many more. Yet his heart truly beats for death metal.

On a quest to combine his passion for death metal with his favoured instrument he teamed up with Kurt Hermans (Off the Cross, ex-Herfst, ex-Angeli di Piëtra) on 5-string bass and Guy Van Campenhout (Notti Del terrore, Angeli di Piëtra) on 7-string guitar. Each of whom bring considerable experience in various metal bands. A bit later on a drummer was found in Ben Van Pethegem (Myotis). In 2018 the first full length album “Eternal Bloodcult” was released through the brand new Dutch label Profane records. However that same year Ben decided to leave the band to pursue his travelling ambitions.

Replacement was found in Nico Veroeven (Serial Butcher, Emeth, Carrion). After playing shows with a.o. Brujeria, Hideous Divinity, Cattle Decapitation, Serial Butcher, The Monolith Deathcult, the second full length album “Depravity” was released through the Belgian label Rotten To The Core Records and features guest vocals by Tommy Dahlströhm from the legendary Swedish death metal band Aeon in 2020. That year Kurt decided to leave the band to pursue other musical goals with his other band Off The Cross.

Due to the corona crisis that Spring it took a couple of months before replacement was found. However in July Stijn Deldaele (Blunt, Beat Love Orcale, Mucho Gusto) joined the ranks. In 2021 a second guitarist, Poncho Gaval who had his experience with local Mexican metal bands, joined Wound Collector to complete the musical layers of the band thus becoming a quintet. In this line-up a new EP was recorded during 2023 entitled ‘Begging For Chicxulub’.
