It was 2020 and the world had been cursed with illness and societal turmoil. In the city of Salem Massachusetts, Ryan Davison first heard the call of the Metal Gods and was informed that the world was paying the price for turning its back on heavy metal. All hope was lost unless someone could make an inspired sounding metal band with big built-in nods to all metal genres including thrash, speed, black, and death metal(s). Resolving himself to focus on just vocals in the project, but requiring more members to form a band, Ryan recorded a full demo of “Thank the Gods (Heavy Metal Came to Town)” and sent it to guitarists Kenny Pellegrino and Chris Galat, who were ready to lend a heavily armored guitar attack.
Very quickly it was made known that there was only one potential band name to represent the place where the love for metal is endless and the spirits of all Metal Gods are alive and well— Mt. Metal. And then the “Demo Wars” had begun. While fully maintaining strict social distancing regulations recommended by the high council, 2021 was spent writing, collaborating, and recording song ideas for this new project to emerge from the ashes of despair. Saying things to eachother like “can you write me some lyrics for this about a dragon that’s made of metal? And also… figure out why it’s made of metal”.
A rhythm section was formed with Matt Dix who was willing to sacrifice guitar knowledge for bass wisdom and then came Mighty Max “Big Moment” Sloan with his drums, hammer, and shield. By the end of that year, heavy metal morale was to the point that live venues started opening up again locally and the band were able to flex their might onstage.
While continuing to write, rehearse and play shows in 2022, some videos for demo versions of “Forging the Blade” and“I’ll Never Forget (Heavy Metal)” were uploaded to YouTube . The “Made of Metal” demo lyrics video also appears in this time. At the end of 2022 Mt. Metal went into the studio to start recording their debut album “The Metal Gods Demand Sacrifice”. Production went slow at first as more local gigs arose with more faces in desperate need of being melted.
Unfortunately, by early 2024 Chris Galat was no longer able to make the necessary sacrifices to please the Metal Gods and was required to leave the mountain indefinitely. Local bard and longtime friend of the band Dave Lordan was happy to step in on guitar and the finishing touches on the album were near. In August 2025, “The Metal Gods Demand Sacrifice” was released and there was much rejoicing.
At present, the band remains under the mountain diligently mining and forging a follow up EP to be ready for release in 2027.
