Rising metal act SURVIVALIST are set to unleash their next single, “Failure Of Being”, featuring producer and close collaborator Josh Sid Robinson, on October 17th. The track marks the latest chapter in the band’s evolution as they prepare for the release of their highly anticipated sophomore album, ‘A Place For Those Who Suffer, Alone…’
Formed in Belfast, SURVIVALIST are a four-piece force of nature: Gavin Sharp (vocals), Nick Butcher (guitars), Lee Shaw (bass), and Rhys Fraser (drums). Drawing inspiration from personal struggles, mental health, and the chaotic state of the world, the band has forged their own identity within modern metal — a sound they call “Groovecore”, blending melodic intensity, massive riffs, and emotionally charged breakdowns.
Their 2021 debut album, VII, put SURVIVALIST firmly on the map, earning rave reviews across the board — including 10/10 from Rock ‘N’ Load Magazine, 9/10 from Evermetal, and 8/10 from Powerplay — and surpassing 100,000 streams worldwide. The album’s raw power and introspective lyrics resonated deeply with fans, solidifying the group’s reputation as one of Ireland’s most promising metal exports.
SURVIVALIST broke into the wider scene with their breakout single “Greater Negative”, an anthem of resilience and healing that gained international radio play, including BBC Radio, and even landed the band a prime-time TV appearance on Channel 5 with Gaby Roslin and Ortis Deley. Since then, the band have shared stages with some of metal’s heaviest hitters, including Chelsea Grin, Polaris, Suffocation, Atreyu, Kublai Khan, Distant, and more.
With their ongoing tour alongside Thy Art Is Murder, are poised to make an even bigger impact. Their recent singles — “Deathbed” (ft. Alex Koehler, ex-Chelsea Grin / Ameonna) and “Radio Bleed” — have already surpassed 10,000 streams each across Spotify and YouTube, while receiving coverage from over 50 press outlets and radio stations.
Now, with “Failure Of Being”, SURVIVALIST are ready to deliver their most personal and punishing track yet. Featuring Josh Sid Robinson, who also serves as the album’s producer, the single explores the inner conflict between self-acceptance and self-destruction — an emotional and sonic storm that encapsulates the essence of the new record.
“Failure Of Being” is a raw and unflinching look at the internal battles of mental health — the distorted self-perception, the feelings of worthlessness, and the belief that the world is against you. At its core, the song confronts the painful realization that it isn’t always others who push you away, but your own anger, isolation, and destructive patterns. It’s an admission of being both the victim and the cause — the embodiment of violence, distance, and the failure of being.
“This song is about confronting the parts of yourself you’d rather ignore,” says vocalist Gavin Sharp. “It’s heavy, it’s honest, and it’s us at our most vulnerable — but also our most powerful.”
A Place For Those Who Suffer, Alone... promises to push SURVIVALIST’s sound and storytelling further than ever, with additional features from Kid Bookie and Alex Koehler.
“Failure Of Being” drops on October 17th across all major streaming platforms.
