Formed in 2009 by ex-Slugathor members Tommi Grönqvist and Jarno Nurmi, Desecresy set out to invoke the true spirit of death metal – music from beyond the grave, swathed in an aura of terror and driven by riffs of bone-breaking heaviness. After four albums and seven years Jarno Nurmi stepped aside, but Tommi Grönqvist’s dedication to his musical vision remained undiminished and he carried on alone, releasing albums of ever increasing power and immersive, chilling atmosphere. And now it is time for the ninth Desecresy album to be unveiled, the finest distillation of the rotting arts to date – the hypnotic, monolithic The Secret Of Death!
From the thick, atavistic riffs and eerie haunted tomb atmosphere of opening track ‘Gorge Of The Dead’ to the fear filled dark nightmare of the concluding ‘Vanishing Existence’, The Secret Of Death is an incredible, mind warping journey through the kingdom of the dead. Be it the shambling, corpse-like beast that is ‘By The Slowing Vortex Of Time’, or ‘Ancient Timbre Of Demise’ that explodes from an unnerving intro before drowning in its own rot, propelled by a sickeningly heavy bass and circled by haunting melodies; every second of this album howls at you, ‘only death is real!’ The arcane ritual of ‘Summoned With Necrolunar Telepathy’, the frantic hunt of ‘Crypthymn’, the Lovecraftian monstrosities of ‘It Appears In A Dream’, the fierce hunger of ‘Rotting Ghouls’…this is true underground death metal like no other. Nightmares made flesh, screaming horror coalesced into cold, inescapable reality. Desecresy have harnessed the power of direst necromancy and invoked the unspeakable and unimaginable.
