Abkehr emerged in Northern Germany in 2015 as a two-piece founded by Raash and H., and has since evolved into a full four-piece without losing the stark emotional core that defined its beginnings. Rooted in black metal but never confined by rigid boundaries, the band moves between austere minimalism and vast, atmosphere-driven compositions, building its sound through repetition, tension, and slow-burning escalation.

"…dem Willen zur Macht und dem Vergessen." is Abkehr’s fourth full-length album and follows the trilogy In Asche (2017), In Feuer (2019), and In Blut (2021). Across those records, the band traced dissolution, transformation, and confrontation with the darker layers of the human condition. The new album continues that path, expanding its focus on existential weight, atmosphere, and relentless sonic intensity.

The record looks at existence as something circular, unstable, and ultimately self-consuming. Its worldview is bleak but clear-eyed: downfall appears not as spectacle or catastrophe, but as the exhausted exhalation of a species that has burned itself out, while old spirits remain behind as silent remnants of arrogance and forgetting. That perspective runs through all six pieces, giving the album a severe, immersive character where harsh immediacy and introspection constantly overlap.
