In March of 2023 fans of Minnesota’s brutal death metal titans, Taking The Head Of Goliath were saddened to read the following statement from band:
“As the ol' saying goes, all good things must come to an end. And as of this announcement, the end has come for Taking The Head Of Goliath…From the bottom of our hearts we thank you all for your support over the years. We appreciate every one of you and have had the time of our lives with this project.”
After eight years, one live album, one crushing self titled EP, one digital single and numerous bone-breaking shows, the Taking The Head Of Goliath story had ended…almost. In October, in association with Rottweiler Records, the band will issue a posthumous EP, one last utterly devastating demonstration of Taking The Head Of Goliath’s unique and supremely heavy song craft. From beyond the grave comes Futility Of The Flesh!
Four tracks that represent the very best, the very heaviest of Taking The Head Of Goliath make up this outstanding EP. Opening with a duo of new studio recordings – ‘Futility Of The Flesh’ and ‘Septic Enslavement’ – there are no prisoners taken here. Fearsome riffs cascade over blast beat battery, guitars writhe and slither through a sludge of blood and mud, vocals from the depths of the earth scour the flesh as the songs thrash with violent, dynamic life, shifting tempos with bewildering ease. A live recording of ‘Neoteric Tribal Barbarism’ descends like a plague of locusts after those twinned terrors, the band captured in full flight at Rayfest in 2021 at the height of their powers, before we revisit the magnificent 2019 single, ‘Cord Of Three Strands’. Originally an independent, digital release this blackened masterpiece of melody and extremity now has the platform it has always deserved.
With the recording of Futility Of The Flesh being handled by Will Maravelas (Thor, Incinerate etc) and the mixing and mastering by Charles Powell (Carnifex etc), Taking The Head Of Goliath have never sounded better – and thanks to the skills of Pär Olofsson (Children Of Bodom, Exodus etc) their final release can also boast some wild and impactful cover art. When Rottweiler Records unleash Futility Of The Flesh on October 25th this really will mark the end for Taking The Head Of Goliath…but what a way to bow out! Uncompromising, shockingly heavy and teeth-grindingly intense right to the very last note.
