Cataclysmic, the metalcore duo formed in early 2025 by Ava Toton and Derek Romero, just released their third single “Anguish”. Following their 2025 singles Death Is Just a Doorway and Entropy, the band continues refining their signature fusion of crushing djent riffs, metalcore aggression, and atmospheric electronic textures. Entirely written, performed, and produced by the duo, Cataclysmic delivers music that is unrelenting, immersive, and emotionally charged.
Drawing influence from modern heavy innovators such as Thrown, Spiritbox, Periphery, and Loathe, the band balances punishing distortion with expansive, atmospheric layering. “Anguish” is immediate and intense, launching without a prolonged intro and driving forward with tight rhythmic precision. The track closes with an atmospheric jungle-inspired outro, showcasing the duo’s willingness to push genre boundaries while maintaining sonic heaviness.
About the Band:
Ava Toton (16) is a guitarist, vocalist, songwriter, and producer who began playing at age five and has released multiple solo projects prior to co-founding Cataclysmic. Derek Romero (16) began performing in 2021 and has played festivals and venues across Austin, San Francisco, New York, and Ontario. He’s a guitarist, songwriter and producer. He has made a vocal feature in each Cataclysmic release. In 2026, Cataclysmic made their live performance debut at Cliff Burton Day, marking a pivotal moment in their rapid ascent. Drawing influence from boundary-pushing acts like Thrown, Spiritbox, Loathe, Periphery, Alpha Wolf, HEAVENSGATE, fromjoy, and Kublai Khan, Cataclysmic channels a volatile fusion of music: crushing djent and metalcore guitar work layered with atmospheric, shoegaze-inspired choruses.
