Modern metal band Above the Ocean unveils their new single “Thank You,” an inspirational and deeply personal story about overcoming generational trauma and transforming it into the strength to become a better version of yourself.

“Thank You” is the third single off Above the Ocean’s upcoming debut album, revealing an entirely new dimension of their sound while preserving the band’s signature blend of intensity and melody. Loaded with hard-hitting guitar riffs, rapid, pounding drums, dynamic clean vocals and harsh screams, and a noticeably stronger electronic presence than in previous singles, “Thank You” stands as Above the Ocean’s most modern-sounding track to date.

Vocalist and lyricist José Saruga adds: “This, like all the lyrics I’ve written so far, is based on my personal life. I wanted it to reflect my own story, but also to stand as a cautionary tale. You don’t have to repeat the mistakes that were forced onto you. You can — and you should — break that cycle and create your own path, free from guilt, free from anger. Where others failed you, you thrive. Take all those negative examples and build something different, something beautiful: something you never had, but something you choose to give to someone else — and to yourself. At the same time, in a kind of conflicted duality, I’m thanking the person who made me suffer. Thanking him for showing me exactly what I never wanted to become. No admiration — just a strange kind of gratitude.

This song is dedicated to my father. Thank you. Your mistakes made me who I am.”
