Marax is a Slovenian symphonic black metal band formed in the winter of 2017. Current
band members are Nord Slayer (Cordura, Cvinger) on guitar (also the bass and the keyboards for recording), Morgoth (Cordura, Cvinger) on drums, Anin Astaroth (Morana) on vocals.
In December 2017, the band issued their first single, The Relinquishment of Existence, from the EP The Abyss of Illusions, which was then released on 28 April 2018 when the band performed live for the first time at the Fuck off Commercial festival in Slovenia. By the end of 2018, the band recorded their second EP, Dance within the Flames of Burning Fire, which was released on 1st January 2019. The violin on the first two EP-s was recorded by Ana Novak (Noreia) a.k.a. Žica.
Towards the end of 2019, the band started recording their first full-length album The Witch. At this time, Mors Violinis had already become a member. The Witch was released on 24 April 2020. During the summer, the band recorded another EP, Still Think You’re Holy (A Tribute to Eliminator) as a tribute to the former thrash metal band of Nord Slayer. The EP was released independently in its digital form on 23 August 2020, and later on it was released in physical form by the South American label Antitesis Records.
Up until March 2020, the band performed regularly in Slovenia, including the concert on 3 August 2019, when they played as the support band for NervoChaos (Brazil). They also performed at a concert in Klagenfurt, Austria. In 2020/2021, the band managed to perform at some concerts, including the Kunigunda festival in August 2021.
At the end of March, 2022, the band recorded The Witch album as a live concert, which was then released on 24 September 2022.
"The Shrine" was the second full-length album. Released on August 30, 2024, the album
features 13 continuous tracks (48 minutes total) blending aggressive guitar work, harsh
shrieking vocals, and cinematic orchestral elements like violins and keyboards.
They played as the opening act for bands such as NervoChaos, Arkona and Thantifaxath, among others.
EP titled Necroblood, was released on June 6, 2026.
