Franco-Spanish outfit IMPUREZA unveil their latest single “Verdiales & Bajo las Tizonas de Toledo,” taken from the upcoming concept album Alcázares, due out July 11, 2025 via Season of Mist. Structured as a two-part composition, the piece opens the album with “Verdiales,” an instrumental homage to the folk traditions of Málaga, before launching into the martial might of “Bajo las Tizonas de Toledo”—a blistering retelling of the legendary exploits of El Cid.
Blending Andalusian melodies with the unrelenting force of brutal death metal, the track serves as a sonic invocation of the Reconquista’s mythos. “Bajo las Tizonas de Toledo” evokes scenes of spiritual warfare and esoteric battle, where desecrated monasteries, spectral warriors, and cursed steel haunt the blood-soaked landscapes of medieval Iberia. Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar (El Cid Campeador) emerges not just as a historical figure but as a spectral archetype of vengeance and valor, with his mythical sword Tizona at the heart of the track’s lyrical and musical ferocity.
Carried by flamenco-rooted guitar lines, guttural incantations in raw Castilian, and orchestral swells that frame the narrative with grandeur, the song sets the tone for the album’s exploration of history, faith, and fatalism.
