Frozen Soul drop “DEATHWEAVER” just ahead of their U.S. tour which kicks off tonight. The single is 4 minutes of pummeling death metal that leans into their unchecked aggression of hardcore punk. It’s the final preview ahead of their new studio album No Place of Warmth – their most definitive and defiant record to date. At the center of it all is vocalist Chad Green, whose bellow sits somewhere between a spiritual guide, dungeon master and soothsayer, delivering tales of unending battles and vanquishing foes.
“‘DEATHWEAVER’ is about how slowly, in time, you lose pieces of yourself and gain new perspectives. Weaving your memories of life’s experiences to form who you are inside, and the cruel nature of life—the cycle of death—and how hard it is to stay who you are,” Green tells.
For the video, Frozen Soul turned to anime influences like Ninja Scroll and Noise Marines from Warhammer, in addition to Hellraiser 80s-style horror. Using that scope, Green crafted a story of a character that uses the veins, nerves and bones of their victims as a musical instrument, specifically a harp.
Green adds, “In the end, the video is about a woman that is centuries old, and in her eyes she is forever chasing her dream of creating the perfect harp. In reality, she is using the flesh, bones, veins, and nerves of her victims (us performing) to make this bone harp—the end reveal is nuts!”. I also had a ton of fun working with my childhood friend Eric from Mile High Animation on the design of the harp, he 3D printed it in pieces then I put it together, painted and gored it up with the help of Sam!”
