CULTKILL MUSIC is proud to present FLESIA’s second full-length release ACHTERBAHNEKSTASE that will be unleashed on CD and limited black and green 12” vinyl on 31st of October.
In 2021, this Leipzig-based trio released their debut LP TROST on Revolvermann Records and already showcased the sonical array Flesia intends to capture. Only four years later, Flesia are about to return with the release of their sophomore full-length ACHTERBAHNEKSTASE. Right from the start, it was clear that the sound of Flesia is not for the faint-hearted and occasional listener. This blistering and captivating acoustic wall of furious Black Metal wholly devours the listener. The rollercoaster ride that the title of the album suggests (Achterbahn = rollercoaster) perfectly resembles the journey the listener is put through while wading or being forcibly pushed through these three tracks of transcendental thunderstorms. Ranging from raw and maverick Black Metal all across suffocating Sludge and towards crushing sequences of Doom, the overarching strikingly clear artistic voice remains omnipresent. The minimalist reduction that comes with the limitation of an instrumental duo does not showcase difficulties to Flesia when operating the aforementioned range of sounds solely drawing on bass and drums. As soon as the listener is made aware of the fact that there are no guitars present on this entire release it gets clear that the bass itself emanates this massive sonical maelstrom that forms the core of these tracks. Artistic nuances often derive from limitations, which is why the constellation of this band did not hinder Flesia from manifesting their creative intentions. It rather served as the foundation for this tone while the bass takes on a whole new role, transporting melodic and textured sound that forms a synergy with the versatile drums. Since it is elementary to focus on the room each of these instruments takes up in order to not forcibly arrange mutual deconstruction, sound pioneer Tim De Gieter (ex-Amenra) was chosen to be in charge of mixing and mastering this album at Much Luv Studio. With this well-chosen help, both the moments of crushing heaviness as well as discomforting calm can fully unfold. For all fans of genre bending - of Leviathan or The Body and everything in between - this album will bring nothing but delight. This is perfectly undermined by the dazzling and highly vivid flash of an album cover by visual artist Geleeregen. Leaving nothing but clear sight of the fact that what is about to hit you will be difficult to categorize, this cover perfectly justifies the release date of this album.
ACHTERBAHNEKSTASE marks Flesia’s sophomore full-length, yet it also is the first full-length album that will be released via CULTKILL MUSIC. Thus, for the label this release will always remain special.
We at CULTKILL have been working closely together with the band in order to plan this release. Shaping ideas, learning together, making mistakes and growing from them as a small and young DIY label. We are more than proud to finally unleash this record on October 31st, fittingly right on the day of Halloween.
