Fatal Portrait to release An Elusive Instinct for Lascivia Redvx!

Spanish black metal quintet Fatal Portrait presents An Elusive Instinct for Lascivia Redvx, a complete reworking of their 2001 album, scheduled for release on 24 October 2025 via Black Lion Records on CD and digital formats. This album marks their return from hibernation and their first offering in two decades.

Fatal Portrait is a black metal band formed in Santander (Cantabria) in 1998. Their sound, from the beginning, has been defined from the outset by a combination of aggression, technical structure, and an ever-present melodic component, influenced by the Scandinavian school of the ‘90s.

During their initial phase, the band left a notable mark on the Spanish and European underground circuit. Following several demos, they released their first EP, Rapture Among the Idols (1999), through Arte de Occulta, followed by An Elusive Instinct of Lascivia (2001) on Downfall Records (Sweden). The latter was well received by specialized media and consolidated the band’s identity. In 2006, they released Adventum via More Hate Productions (Russia), with a more direct approach and without keyboards, before entering a long slumber.

Nearly two decades later, Fatal Portrait returns with An Elusive Instinct for Lascivia Redvx, a release that not only revisits their past but reconstructs it from a new artistic and sonic perspective. All the tracks have been reinterpreted with new arrangements, greater rhythmic and dynamic depth, and a contemporary production approach that preserves the original dark atmosphere but reinforces its emotional and narrative impact. This version offers more solid structures, a more versatile vocal performance, and an instrumental execution that emphasizes the melodic intention without losing its power. It is a work that consciously distances itself from nostalgia to offer a new, mature interpretation, faithful to the band’s spirit.

The visuals have been developed with the same level of rigor: The cover art was created by renowned artist Joan Llopis Doménech, who has captured the lyrical and aesthetic concept of the album in a dense image, full of symbolism and darkness.

The new logo, designed by Christophe Spzajel (Arkham Studio, France), provides a renewed visual identity, respecting the classic spirit of black metal but with a modern and restrained approach.
