Founded in 2017 by keyboardist and vocalist Thijs Ronteltap as a solo project, Epistulum slowly grew to a full-fledged band featuring Jeroen Nels on lead-guitar, Ramón Roest on drums, Justus Ebel on bass and Billy ter Horst on rhythm guitar, later replaced by Jeremy De Boer.

The band went on to produce and release their first full-length album on August 26th, 2022. The album, FROM THE DEAD MASSES, is a collection of musical portraits on the primordial aggressions within the human grounds of being, through explosive, synth-driven death metal.

So far the band has been playing multiple shows in their native country, the Netherlands, but has also played its first show abroad in Ahrensburg, Germany in March in 2024.

The band finished a new album earlier this year, titled ‘CANTIGA PSYCHOTICA’, which was released in October 2025.This release paints different schizophrenic pictures of various human practices, be it religion or the psychology of the inner world, to establish a sense of paranoid dread throughout its runtime.

From darkened archetypes guiding the listener to abolish all hopes of clinging to any sense of personality to desolate pictures of a great she-demon who allows the souls of her followers on earth to feast upon her flesh in sexual ecstasy, CANTIGA PSYCHOTICA is a boundary-expanding experiment meant to inflict a fear-instilled but harmonic exercise of great aggression into the listener, mainly to liberate oneself from destructive convention, be it social, political or religious conditioning of any kind.
