New metal quintet DISTANT DOMINION arrives with their debut record, Ripping Through Time, confirmed for release in September via Fetzner Death Records.
Influencers of influences, the members of DISTANT DOMINION have spent countless nights in the forge honing their craft in bands like Krieg, Rumpelstiltskin Grinder, Polterchrist, Mortal Decay, and more to grind every spark of alchemical dissonance. While not wasting a drop of melodic sludge, they harness virtuosic composure into a relentless golem of brutality.
DISTANT DOMINION has been gestating in the dead but dreaming womb of the Philadelphia area metal scene for decades like an unwritten prophecy carried in from the acrid winds risen off the cross-tides of the Schuylkill and Delaware rivers. A perfect storm of technical precision, powerful and complementary songwriting, and more than a collective century of experience. Not only the quintessential metal band of celebrated genre veterans from the area, they are also the amalgamation of still-standing shrines to the great old ones who have summoned a sonic assault far greater than the sum of its parts.
Formed during quarantine voids of the COVID-19 pandemic by guitarist/vocalist Ryan Moll (In The Fire, Azure Emote, Rumpelstiltskin Grinder, Total Fucking Destruction), drummer Brian Deal (Polterchrist), and bassist Frank Esposito, the lineup was soon thereafter completed with the addition of guitarist Joe Gordon (Mortal Decay) and vocalist Shawn Riley (Woe, Rumpelstiltskin Grinder, Krieg). Soon after recording for their debut full-length, Esposito stepped down and left his prodigious compositions in the skilled hands of new bassist Steven Dever (Heikousen, In The Fire).
DISTANT DOMINION’s Ripping Through Time debut deploys an incinerating salvo of invigorating metal devastation infused with flourishes of technical flair, powerful classic metal influence, and fragmented melodies that form an alloy that branches beyond their classically inspired death metal core. Recorded by the band, the album was mixed by Mike Bardzik at NoiseyLittleCritter Recordings (The Casualties, Kill Your Idols, The Boils), mastered by Dan Swanö at Unisound (Opeth, Edge Of Sanity, Bloodbath), and completed with artwork by Mike Hrubovcak / Visual Darkness (Mortician, Grave, Sinister).
The title track to Ripping Through Time serves as the lead single to the record, with the band offering, “This song is a relentless start to finish decimation of the senses. Lyrically, space-horror themed, it tells the story of massive demonic entities tearing open dimensions through space and time to destroy all planets including our own. The whole process of writing this one almost wrote itself. It’s fast, it’s vicious, and it’s pummeling.”
