Since their formation in 2009, Der Weg einer Freiheit have carved out a singular place in modern black metal. While rooted in the genre’s foundations, these Germans are constantly evolving. On their upcoming sixth album, Innern, they turn inward with devastating clarity. “Marter”, the album’s searing opener, plunges into isolation and dissolution before arriving at the fragile possibility of release.
Today, Der Weg einer Freiheit are releasing a new vocal playthrough for “Marter”. Founding member and frontman Nikita Kamprad howls at the heart of the song’s blistering storm. His guttural cries ache from torment while his fragile whispers long for release.
