Forming in 2020 Spain’s champions of classic heavy metal, Sons Of Cult, released their debut album, Back To The Beginning, in 2023 – a collection of songs that spoke to the hearts of all those for whom the splendour of true heavy metal will never be surpassed. Now, after two EPs, ‘24s Desolation and the live set, Live From Groove, which emerged at the dawn of this year, Sons Of Cult are set to unveil their second full length album – Revenge! Revenge takes everything that made Back To The Beginning great and lifts it to the next level. With no polluting touches of the myriad of metal sub genres – no black, no thrash, no death – and no pandering to modern production values, Revenge bows to none and stands proud, uncompromising and unswerving in its devotion to true heavy metal.
With opening track, ‘Steel Miles’, Sons Of Cult raise their banner high, forging an instant connection with metalheads everywhere through the wonderful guitar melody steeped in atmosphere and the superb vocals of Maria J. Lladó. Maria, who replaces Jaume Vilanova whose voice graced Back To The Beginning and Desolation, adds an additional layer of quality to the Sons Of Cult sound, her voice the perfect match for these songs. The first single to be taken from Revenge, ‘Our Heroes Never Die’, follows ‘Steel Miles’ and it’s a passionate anthem that is destined to become a live favourite, a sincere and heartfelt tribute to the legends of metal who have created not just songs but a way of life for so many. With its superb solos, great riffs and sublime melodies ‘Our Heroes Never Die’ displays its influences proudly and adds to them a magic of its own. Revenge is one of those albums where every song is an intrinsic part of the album as a whole, all bound by a lyrical stance of absolute love for metal and an indefatigable determination to pursue your dreams to the very end, to resolutely break through the barriers in your way and stand firm, unflinching in the face of the criticism and disdain of the ignorant. And yet every song is also a glittering highlight in its own right; from the emotive ‘Hate Me’, the sound of a band striding through the darkness with a strength that lifts your heart, to the energised, exemplary metal of ‘We Are Not Alone’, a song of hope that defines the spirit of Sons Of Cult as much as any single song ever can. Revenge never sounds rushed or breathless, always progressing with an unhurried power that adds depth, emotion and atmosphere to the songs. This is an album that deserves its place in the annals of heavy metal, alongside the works of the heroes it holds dear.
Revenge was recorded and produced by the band’s own Vicente J. Payá – a role he has also fulfilled for Golgotha, Unbounded Terror and others – with the mixing and mastering being handled by the renowned Davide Billia (Avulsed, Holycide, Ural etc) and together they have achieved a warm, dynamic and dramatic sound. The band’s honesty, integrity and soul deep understanding of heavy metal shines from every note. Look for Revenge from September 25th, available worldwide via Black Night Records and know that the legacy of heavy metal remains secure in the capable hands of Sons Of Cult.
