Chullachaqui is the side-project of Vulgaris vocalist and bassist Matt Cooper, and Epiphanic Perdition is its debut album. Built from material written before and during his time in Vulgaris that did not fit that band's sound, the record moves through post-metal, sludge metal and doom metal, while also drawing from drone and progressive metal.
The album brings together the first Chullachaqui track released in 2023, Oblivion, with five newly recorded songs. Its narrative follows a man driven toward revolution after an epiphany born from a psychedelic ritual, only to be crushed by the inevitability of the establishment and drawn instead toward infernal vengeance against the humanity he believes failed him.
Epiphanic Perdition was produced by Jess O'Toole of Vulgaris and SLItHeR Productions, with additional tracking assistance from O'Toole and Vulgaris drummer George Mitchell. Matt Cooper handles vocals, guitars, bass and drum programming, with O'Toole contributing additional guitars and Mitchell contributing drums and drum programming.
Tracklist:
1. Yakruna
2. Futility I: Unstoppable Force
3. Futility II: Immovable Object
4. Futility III: Death Becomes You
5. The Serpent
6. Oblivion [2023 Version]
