Atlanta-based blackened metal band CELESTIAL DEATH have released their newest single “Aeons,” a harrowing track that fuses relentless aggression with atmospheric depth. Founded by Forrest Bradford Jessup (guitar and vocals) and Matthew Carmichael (drums), CELESTIAL DEATH emerged after the dissolution of their former project IMPERII. The rebranding marked a new beginning with a sharpened vision of apocalyptic grandeur, and “Aeons” now serves as a defining moment in the band’s evolution.
“'Aeons' is a song I wrote in a very dark time in my life where I wanted society to end," says Jessup. "I felt the world would be better off for it. In my years of getting sober, I’ve come to wish for slightly different resolves for our planet - but the imagination and the story still remains - as a parable, if you will."
The lyrics describe an ancient cosmic being who awakens after millennia of slumber with the sole purpose of cleansing humanity for the preservation of the universe.
The track begins with a haunting dissonant arpeggio before collapsing into unrelenting blackened chaos. Stripped-down instrumentation of guitar, drums, bass, and venomous vocals delivers unfiltered power while maintaining a cinematic arc that conjures the apocalyptic narrative at its core. Recorded and produced at drummer Matthew Carmichael’s home studio, the track was captured with the same raw intensity that defines the band’s live sound. Cover art by @blasphemy_ink brings the monstrous being of “Aeons” vividly to life.
New guitarist Jason Schwartzwalder, who followed the project before joining, described “Aeons” as sounding “world-ending” upon first listen, capturing the essence Forrest envisioned without even knowing the lyrics.
