Bilwis is a Melodic Black Metal solo project from Germany. The concept of Bilwis encompasses old European fairy tales and myths, clothing them in a garment of raw, yet melodic and atmospheric Black Metal with German lyrics - a journey into the world of forgotten dreams, wolves, ghosts, dwarves, mermaids, trolls, elves, vampires, and giants. When Bilwis began songwriting for the new album 'Hameln', it soon became apparent that, in terms of songwriting, a return to the style of the debut EP was necessary, but with an improved sound. The last album 'Pan' was very melodic and playful, whereas the new album required a darker and more oppressive sound and songwriting to express the grim themes dealt with in the lyrics. Musically, a major inspiration has always been Dissection, and while not always apparent, the occasional nods to 'The Somberlain' are quite distinctive. To visually express the dark themes of the fairy tales and myths told on the new album, particularly that of the title song, it was decided to have the cover artwork done by the very talented German artist Julian Bauer, who perfectly captured the essence of the music and lyrics in his depiction of the 'Rattenfänger von Hameln' (The Pied Piper of Hamelin).
Hameln“ was recorded, mixed and mastered between February – December 2023 at „Gates of Neverland“ Studio Nordrhein-Westfalen. Vocals recorded at “Höllenbunker” Duisburg. Mastered by Ulf Horbelt – Finest Audio Mastering Marl.
