Since 2007, Gore Force V have been combining brutal death metal speed, grindcore energy, and a deliberately absurd sense of humor. Their songs hit hard, but the band has never hidden the fact that ridiculous themes and over-the-top visuals are part of the point.
Annus Porkus Oinkus is the band’s third record in three years and their sixth release overall. It is also their first album to come out through a label, arriving via Rotten To The Core, with distribution support from Rotten Roll Rex in Germany.
Musically, the album stays rooted in high-speed brutality while leaving room for different angles within that framework. “Dead Hooker Necromancy 101: Correct Use of a Shovel” pushes into a more technical direction, “Circle Jerking for Dummies” slips into a groove-heavy section before breaking back into thrash-driven chaos, and “Anus of the Blue Goat: The Rectum Strikes Back” revives a song from the band’s earliest days. “Saptem!! (En Sterf)” is the most grind-driven piece on the record and features guest vocals from Jesse Buytaert, Tim De Meyer, and Jolle Antonissen, while “Coathanger Abortions on Ice” adds unexpected melodic touches to the band’s usual violence. Closing track “Repulsive Swampdonkey Lesbromancy” sums up the whole record well: ridiculous on paper, but musically sharp, heavy, and far more punishing than its title suggests.
The visual side follows the same logic. The cover is once again fully hand-drawn by Belgian cartoonist Hanne Dewachter, with a giant pig head dominating the front artwork inside a bright stained-glass design. Instead of leaning into the usual dark and murky death/grind aesthetic, the album uses cheerful colors and exaggerated imagery to push the contrast even further.
