In Melbourne, Australia during the bleak days of the global pandemic, singer/guitarist Phillip T. King, formerly of Galaxy and Butterfly, began to plant the seeds that would grow to become the remarkable Flitcraft. Since those days of creative isolation, two albums have been released – 2022s Our Long Journey to the Middle and 2023s House at the Centre of the Universe – and drummer Jack Phillips and bass player Zac Halpin have been welcomed aboard the Flitcraft mothership. Now, in 2025, Flitcraft are ready to unveil their third and most breathtaking album to date…Transmission Echo. Flitcraft have never stopped growing and developing, venturing ever further into the stars, becoming something special; something open, accessible and attuned to the human heart, yet intricate, otherworldly and multi-faceted at the same time. It’s a strange kind of magic that they weave and that magic has never been more powerful and beguiling than on Transmission Echo.
The opening chords of the introductory ‘Days’ immediately fill the listener with an ever growing sense of excitement and anticipation and when the band flow on into ‘Talus’ positive energy abounds. Incredible vocals and thrilling riffs blend with a progressive sense of adventure, creating something hard rocking but fresh and full of musical surprises. From ‘Anxiety Machine’ with its driving drums, twists, turns and textures, bringing to mind the great Deep Purple, to the stunning centre piece of ‘Years’, a wonderful track that draws upon the metallic thunder of Iron Maiden, the languid lead work and ethereal atmosphere of Pink Floyd and vocals that harness the range and positivity of Yes’ Jon Anderson, Flitcraft take dashes of inspiration from so many places, but together they make something unique and new. It’s that strange magic again… Every single song on Transmission Echo is unforgettable, with the concluding title track being the crowning glory of this superlative collection. ‘Transmission Echo’ is a dream to float in, a cornucopia of delights, a song out of time and yet so right for this time. It perfectly concludes an album that has all the qualities that will make it a lifelong companion to those who discover it.
Blessed with a sound that embodies the organic qualities that typified the age when music was at its most exploratory and imaginative, yet possessing the rich, textured clarity, the power and fluidity that modern production can provide, Transmission Echo is an absolute joy to listen to. Adorned in the kind of sleeve artwork that prompts reflection and speculation, suggesting better days and distant horizons, Transmission Echo offers a complete, enthralling experience. It will be coming your way on October 17th, on CD, LP and Digital formats, with pre-orders available from Pitch Back Records, so grab a hold when it passes by and don’t let go.
