After Earth was formed in the fall of 2017 in Skövde, Västra Götaland, Sweden. By mid-2019, the band had solidified its line-up and amassed enough material to begin performing live. Just a few shows in, however, the pandemic struck, forcing the band to pivot toward writing and recording.
In 2020, they self-recorded and released their debut EP, Before It Awakes, which received generally positive reviews and hinted at the band’s creative potential.
The following two years were marked by turbulence and line-up changes, but in 2022, After Earth released the single From Age to Aeon, a heavier, more refined track that signaled a new musical direction.
Pre-production for their debut full-length began in early 2023, culminating in the release of The Rarity of Reason in August that year. The album marked a turning point, and the band hit the ground running, playing shows across the country and embarking on their first European tour in September alongside Swedish death metal act Mara. During this tour, live guitarists Jonathan Ahlin and Ludvig Andersson were officially welcomed as permanent members.
With a stable line-up and growing momentum, the band spent 2024 and 2025 writing and performing relentlessly, evolving their signature blend of groove-laden Gothenburg metal with genre-bending influences. Their chemistry on stage only grew stronger with each show.
