OÏKOUMEN - behind this name, taken from Ancient Greek and meaning “the inhabited world”, lies the intention to explore what humans go through, both emotionally and in tangible, real-world terms.
OÏKOUMEN shares visceral emotions, often dark, always committed, through intense, embodied music, where the orchestra serves emotion rather than acting as mere decoration. The music is conceived to speak directly, from a deeply human perspective.
The art-loving group recently presented their new single “Reign Of Idiocy” from their second album, which will be released in April.
The title and exact release date will be announced shortly.
The Band says about the lyrical background:
"When you are bullied, it doesn’t come from you. It is the bullies who decide to make you guilty. Guilty of what they put you through because they are incapable of taking responsibility for their actions. They turn the playground into a courtroom and appoint themselves as judges, dispensing fear rather than justice. And the worst part of all this is that those who are supposed to help trivialize the situation. How many times do we hear, “It’s just kids being kids”? We really need to learn to call things by their proper names: bullying is not playing. Those who hurt others often feel a sense of power, yet there is nothing weaker than giving in to that feeling, especially for those who just go along with the crowd. It is much harder to stand on the other side, but that is where real strength lies. Think about it: if someone is being mistreated right in front of you, what takes more strength: helping them, or looking away and pretending you didn’t see anything?"
