In 2003, Michael Lenz, deeply inspired by the haunting and endless atmosphere of Herman Hesse’s poem “Im Nebel”, composed four musical pieces that embodied its spirit. In mid-2004, he and Sergiy Ermolaev decided to form a band. Over the course of the next year, their vision began to take shape, and by the end of 2005, drummer Dmitry Mazmanov had joined them, solidifying the group's rhythm section. In the spring of 2006, keyboardist Helen Chobanyan came on board, followed by vocalist Vasil Doiashvili in June to complete the ensemble. This collective soon began to refine their sound, arranging and composing new material that would eventually form the basis of their debut album.

Between 2008 and 2009, the band actively performed live, marking a productive and creative period that defined their first era. However, this chapter came to an end when Dmitry and Helen left the band, prompting a change in line-up. Guitarist Grigol Lobzhanidze and drummer Tim Lomidze stepped in to fill the void, ushering in a new phase for the band. For the next three years, they focused heavily on live performances while continuing to develop new material for their second album. Despite their best efforts, recording sessions for the new album were plagued by personal and technical challenges. This period of frustration culminated in the departure of Tim, Sergiy and eventually Vasil.

In 2014, drummer Nikoloz Rukhadze joined the band, forming a new core alongside Grigol and Michael. Together they began the process of reworking the songs intended for the second album, infusing them with fresh energy and new perspectives. During this time, Michael also immersed himself in sound engineering, learning the skills necessary to shape the band's evolving sound. Their persistence paid off, and in March 2016 they released their first single, 'Undestroyed', which featured Michael's long-time friend Alexander Leiman on bass guitar. Later that year, vocalist Alexandre Gurchumelia joined the band, further strengthening the line-up. With the addition of Alexandre Gurchumelia, who also took over bass duties, Im Nebel finally recorded the drums for their long-awaited second album in December 2016.

By 2018, Im Nebel had begun recording their new album in earnest. Determined to achieve a polished and powerful sound, Michael composed intricate symphonic and synth sections to enhance the recorded drums and guitars. A meticulous approach to re-amping instruments, editing recordings and mastering the final tracks ensured that the album reflected the band's artistic vision.
