Swedish black metal duo Morcaint returns with “Mornië Utúlië” – a sublime follow-up to their 2023 release “Elessar”, which was hailed as the perfect fusion of Dissection’s ferocity and Summoning’s grandeur. The new EP will be available digitally from July 26, 2024.
Founded in 2008, Morcaint has its roots deeply embedded in the rich soil of Scandinavian black metal. Heruhim, the primary composer and driving force behind both Morcaint and Blodtår, continues to showcase his uncanny ability to conjure otherworldly black metal beauty from the shadows of the past.
Like “Elessar”, “Mornië Utúlië” draws inspiration from Tolkien’s universe. The opening track captures the moment of Frodo’s voyage into Valinor, a passage into the West. The following two songs are told from the perspective of Galadriel, blending her ancient wisdom and ethereal melancholy with atmospheric darkness and evocative melodies. The final track features a company of elves singing about Varda, adding a majestic conclusion to the EP.
Heruhim commented:
“Mornië Utúlië” was recorded, mixed, and mastered in my studio, Spectral Violence. For this release, I have introduced a new influence into Morcaint’s sound, blending ballads by artists like Elton John and Eric Clapton with a warmer type of extreme metal, reminiscent of Alcest and Agalloch. While inspired by the music of the 80s and 90s, it diverges from the black metal scene of those decades. I believe this fusion creates something unique and innovative, and it has been incredibly exciting and rewarding to experiment with these ideas in our releases.
