Myrkur Skógur is the new black metal project founded by Sander Pietersen, emerging from the shadow of his previous band, F.U.A. After 13 years together, the breakup of F.U.A. left Pietersen facing what felt like the end of his musical path. “I thought my career was over — no more band after all that time,” he recalls. But a conversation with Gloria Cavalera reignited the spark. Her words — “Art doesn’t leave one’s blood” — became a turning point, reminding him that creativity isn’t something that fades away.

From that moment, the vision for Myrkur Skógur began to take shape. Pietersen started writing songs alone, channeling raw emotion and isolation into early demos that captured both darkness and determination. Wanting to bring these ideas to life in full form, he teamed up with Rens, whose collaboration helped refine and strengthen the material. With a solid musical foundation in place, Stefan Terlouw joined on bass, delivering performances that completed the sound and gave the project its final, cohesive form.

The result is Myrkur Skógur’s debut EP, a brooding, atmospheric, and deeply personal exploration of rebirth through black metal. Released through Zwaertgevegt (NL Black Metal), the record embodies the cold intensity and spirit of the genre while standing as a testament to perseverance and creative rebirth.
