About Longhouse: Longhouse is best described as Doom metal, with sludge and post metal influences. Drawing musical inspiration from acts such as Pallbearer, Mastodon, Isis, Cult of Luna, and Khemmis, Longhouse creates a sound that is both heavy and evocative."III: Nìjwàswe"is the follow-up to their 2017 release"II: Vanishing", which received a Canadian JUNO Award nomination for Metal/Heavy Album of the Year. The new album continues to delve deep into the themes, stories, and language of bass player and vocalist Joshua Cayer’s Anishinàbe Algonquin heritage and broader First Nations teachings. Nìjwàswe, the Algonquin word for the number seven, acts as a wayfinder as Cayer documents his journey of connecting with and understanding traditional teachings such as the 7 Grandfather Teachings and other First Nations stories. On using Anishinàbemowinwords for track titles, Cayer explains that Longhouse has become a vehicle for him to express and share learnings and insights from his culture. "Language is a tremendously important transmitter of that culture and it was important for me to be able to share pieces of the language as I continue on my journey of learning it," he says.
